L’Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI) en collaboration avec ses partenaires, organise :

La foire commerciale sur les IG en Afrique afin de promouvoir les IG sur le continent et de faire le point sur les enseignements tirés des cadres réglementaires et de la chaîne de valeur des produits IG (organisation, suivi, contrôle et commercialisation).

Le  thème du colloque :

« Les Indications géographiques en Afrique : état des lieux et perspectives de développement ».

Cet événement réunira des producteurs d’IG, des experts en IG, des représentants des États membres de l’OAPI et des comités nationaux d’IG, ainsi que des représentants d’organisations de développement telles que l’Agence française de développement -AFD, le Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement - CIRAD, l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture - FAO, l’Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle - OMPI, l’Institut national de la propriété industrielle (Office français des brevets et des marques) - INPI, la Commission européenne (direction générale des partenariats internationaux, DG INTPA et direction générale de l’agriculture et du développement rural, DG AGRI), l’Organisation régionale africaine de la propriété intellectuelle - ARIPO, et des représentants d’autres pays africains.

From 17 to 19 April 2024 in Douala, Cameroon, the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) is organising an international conference on the development of geographical indications in Africa, to be held as part of the Trade Fair for protected geographical indication (PGI) products on the African continent.

The event, entitled ‘Geographical Indications in Africa, State of Play and Perspectives’,  is being organised by the OAPI within the framework of the Project to support the establishment of geographical indications in OAPI Member States (PAMPIG), with the support and collaboration of the French Development Agency, the Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation in Africa (AfrIPI) project, the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, which are members of the scientific committee for this colloquium.

Highlights will include the promotion of identified or protected GI products at the OAPI and on the African continent, expert reflections aimed at fostering greater economic dynamism of labelled GIs, and the results of international cooperation to develop GIs in Africa.

High-ranking representatives and specialists from Africa and Europe will be present, as well as GI producers and promoters from Africa and five GIs supported by the AfrIPI project since 2022.

This event falls under Activity 25 of the AfrIPI Annual Work Plan 4.
